A natural spring once filled this pond, but now because of the increased number of large dairy farms in the area, the pond needs water pumped to keep it filled.

Oasis State Park is a beautiful park located in the eastern part of New Mexico, about 7 miles north of the city of Portales. The park is situated around a small lake that is fed by the underground springs, which gives the park its name.

The park covers an area of about 160 acres and is known for its excellent fishing opportunities. The lake is stocked regularly with rainbow trout, catfish, and largemouth bass, making it a popular destination for anglers. The park also has a fishing pier and a boat ramp, making it easy for visitors to get out on the water.

In addition to fishing, Oasis State Park offers a variety of other recreational activities. There are several hiking trails that wind through the park, providing visitors with the opportunity to explore the surrounding desert landscape. Birdwatching is also a popular activity, as the park is home to a variety of species of birds, including hawks, eagles, and waterfowl.

For those who want to stay overnight, Oasis State Park has a campground with 22 sites, including sites for RVs and tents. The campground is equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, as well as restroom and shower facilities.
